For His Namesake

Hello friends,

When we come before God in repentance, we often bring our guilt, our brokenness, and a deep awareness of how far we’ve fallen. And yet, Scripture reveals something astonishing: God doesn’t forgive because we earn it or because our sin is small—He forgives for His name’s sake. The Psalmists write:

“For Your name’s sake, O Lord, pardon my iniquity, for it is great.” – Psalm 25:11

'Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; and deliver us, and atone for our sins, for Your name’s sake!” – Psalm 79:9

This means His forgiveness is rooted in His own character—His mercy, His faithfulness, His glory. When God pardons us, He is showing the world who He is: a gracious and compassionate Father, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

This truth is both humbling and freeing. We don’t have to try and outweigh our failures with good deeds. Instead, we can rest in the assurance that His forgiveness flows from His unchanging nature. When we cry out, “Forgive me, Lord,” we are not appealing to our worthiness, but to His name—the name above every name.

Let this truth quiet your soul today: You are forgiven, not because you are good, but because He is.
